Seems that former Teac CFO Kenneth Evans has just been given a two-and-a-half year jail sentence. He was hammered for such things as contraventions of the Corporations Act, which included:
- two counts of failing to act in good faith in the best interests of TEAC Australia
- one count of dishonestly using his position as a director of TEAC Australia
- one count of falsifying company books
- one count of providing false or misleading information to the auditor of TEAC Australia
- one count of spending too much of company time on lunches
Basically, the court felt that he just didn't give a toss about the little people at the bottom of the pile. He could have received more of a caning but, fortunately for him, he was able to fall back on an old school yard trick of begging, screaming and weeping (he said he was technically guilty but not really his fault). Good old Kenneth said it was not his fault because he was simply a senior employee and only carrying out the instructions of his old mate Gavin Muir (Gavin, you may remember, had previously taken the easier way out).
The court must have taken some pity because they suspended the sentence for 3 years. We would also like to take a little pity on the boy because we know of many people who enjoyed a "free lunch" courtesy of Teac Australia and none of them is standing beside good old Ken. It's a shit gig but somebody had to take the rap.
