RoHS is still getting people cranked up. We thought the following email from Karl gave good representation of the feeling of a lot of small to medium manufacturers.
| Just received not one - not two - but THREE copies of NYC's letter demanding that I send them $1500
to sell electronics items (that we don't sell or manufacture) into NYC. (The irony of wasting
resources and paper sending three copies was not wasted on me.) They then want an additional $1,250
every year!
They are even asking that the manufacturer take responsibility to wipe the data off hard drives!
Obviously, they don't have jurisdiction outside the state, but I think we can expect a federal
version of this idiocy in the pipeline. This should hit about the time that the Federal reserve
will have finished destroying the dollar as the international reserve currency. This downturn in the
economy could last decades if they keep doing these stupid things..
I wonder if anyone has done an honest accounting of the cost of RoHS? I am hearing of canceled
production of products (that had more life left in them), expensive production problems, reliability
issues. I think the real cost of this idiocy is costing untold Billions.
