A head not to be missed

We just turned the tele on and prepared to settle in for a good show, then all of a sudden this very familiar head popped into view. It was Dunk (from ARX). Couldn't believe it. He was a punter dragged from the audience on the SBS Rockwiz show.

How could you miss a smiling face like that? (Notice that even Ron Peno is enamored by Dunk's special persona and extraordinary industry knowledge).

"Let me tell you the facts Ron"

Instantly, we learned a few intensely personal things about Dunk.

  • The first album he ever purchased was "Five Live Yardbirds" (we can't understand why he admit to that).
  • The first concert he ever attended was in 1968.
  • It was "The Who" at Festival Hall.
  • He even caught a piece of Pete Townsend's guitar when all the smashing went on.
  • To get the piece of guitar, he had to step on a couple of people because he was seated way back in isle three.
  • If you know the answers to the following questions, you are equally as smart as Dunk:
    1. Who is the principle songwriter for Greenday?
    2. Name two of the people in Buffalo Springfield?
    3. What record label do we associate with former Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham?
    4. Who wrote the song "Honey Pie"?
    5. What inspired the song "Smoke on the water"
    6. Who's recording system was used for Smoke on the Water?
    7. Which Beatles song was written about chocolate?
Answers to these questions can be found at the bottom of the page

"Today this story is only this big"

"But by tomorrow, it will be this fucking big"

What is it really
Rockwiz, as we understand, is the brainchild of Brian Nankervis. It's a music trivia quiz show recorded at the Espy (Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda), in the well known Gershwin Room, the final product being sold to SBS for viewing on the tele.

How it works
Four punters from the audience and two guest stars make up the two teams. There is an excellent band called the Rockwiz Orkestra which showcases the talents of James Black, Peter Luscombe and Mark Ferrie. Julia Zemiro is the fabulous host.

Episode 34 (Dunk's night) aired on saturday the 4th of April 2009 at 9.20pm and featured Ron Peno and Jen Cloher as the two guest celebrities.

Dunks answers to the questions above:

  1. Billy Joe Armstrong
  2. Stephen Stills and Neil Young
  3. Immediate
  4. The Beatles
  5. A Swiss Casino burning down
  6. Rolling Stones
  7. Savoy Truffle

Supplementary note - Dunk came back to us and explained that "Live Yardbirds" is the only recorded instance of them playing live with their original guitarist Eric Clapton.
In Dunk's words, "It's a très rare item".
