Yamaha announces eight channel amplifier for installations
20th April 2009 - Shaun

The IPA8200 multi-channel amplifier complements Yamaha’s new IMX644 rackmount mixer to give integrators even more space-saving installation options

Yamaha Commercial Audio announces the IPA8200 multi-channel power amplifier. The latest in Yamaha’s extensive line-up of power amplifiers, the IPA8200 is ideal for use in a wide variety of audio installations. The IPA8200 is a highly efficient Class D amplifier that delivers eight channels of 200W each (at 4 ohms) from a compact, lightweight 2U chassis.

The IPA8200’s rear panel features Euroblock inputs and barrier strip outputs, with an internal High Pass Filter which can be activated and is switchable between 20Hz and 55Hz. Pairs of channels may be driven in bridged or parallel modes and, to match different gain structures, the amplifier may be set at a gain level of +26dB or +32dB, or may be used in constant sensitivity mode of +4dBu. For added reliability, each pair of channels has its own dedicated internal power source.

Yamaha’s advanced amplification technology is already catching headlines with leading UK live production company Britannia Row purchasing no less than 80 units of Yamaha’s high-powered T5n touring amplifiers for its rental inventory.

Yamaha has applied the same rigorous standards to the IPA8200, meaning that smaller-scale installations can enjoy superior reliability and sound quality, but with the efficiency of Class D amplification, which is about three times more efficient than conventional Class AB or Class H amplification types. This means the IPA8200 offers greatly reduced power consumption, heat dissipation and space requirements for installation applications.

The IPA8200 is also designed to complement Yamaha’s IMX644 rackmount digital mixer and its 26 different models of Installation Series loudspeaker – from dedicated high and low-frequency units right through to its extensive range of full-range and subwoofer models. This provides venue owners and system integrators with a complete systems solution at their fingertips for a diverse range of installation applications.

The IPA8200 is expected to ship in mid-2009 and will be available through Yamaha’s extensive Pro and Commercial Audio dealer network, joining the recently-arrived IMX644 digital installation mixer.
