What is the measure of a man?
It’s not something we can see at a glance, height or weight, how much he owned, nor his position in life. It’s in the size of the footprint he leaves behind when he departs this earth.
Rob Laing Findlay,
29th July 1952 – 20th June 2009.
May he rest in peace
Rob was important part to each and everyone one of us at Syntec International. He was never too proud to meet us at any level, whether it was work related, or in sharing our human frailties and the daily problems we all face. In so doing, he has left behind the great legacy of a wonderful, caring and compassionate man, whom we all admired tremendously and respected immensely, not just as a work colleague, but as a great friend and a true gentleman.
In sharing our combined loss of Rob, we are saddened in the knowledge of just how much we have lost.
Fond memories of you will last our lifetimes and for that we truly thank you Robert, we miss you.
We offer our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Rob’s family, and in particular his wife Judy, our thoughts are with you. |

Rob Findlay was my friend, I was very sad to hear the news, all my best to his wife and family, he will now be listening to Tannoy's with a set of Sennheiser cans in the other hand, sitting on the right hand side of GOD, all the best mate I will miss you, we never did have that lunch you promised, catch you up there in time, then it will be your shout.
Kindest Regards
Roger Price

It is with unspeakable sadness and the profoundest regret that I have just learnt of the death of Robert Findlay. Those of us who knew Robert hardly need to be reminded of what a kind, generous and thoughtful man he was. I doubt I ever met a better person.

Rarely would you meet somebody as honest and decent as Robert Findlay.
Vale, miss you.

Robert Findlay, often known as RLF as per a certain set of "vanity" registration plates, that adorned his Prado four wheel drive way back in the mid '90s.
I had the pleasure to work under Rob; as my direct boss at Syntec, as State Manager - Victoria, I reported directly to him. I can still recall the day of my first interview with Rob, prior to being appointed to the position. Robert Findlay was a quiet, reserved and very calm person, on the exterior at least. As I now reflect back, Rob was indeed a very complex person; torn between doing his very best for the company, and keeping the peace amongst sometimes disgruntled employees.
Rob very rarely let you into his very personal life, I did have the pleasure once of dining with Rob & Judy at their home. He loved his red wine, in particular a Pyrus that he enjoyed when we dined at the company's expense.
Rob also loved animals, all animals, and even had a company calendar produced to reflect his intense love for these beasts.
Although, I had very little contact with Rob since I left Syntec way back in 1997, I will always remember him as a friend, a compassionate and gentle man, with a great respect for his fellow man and a humility that is so lacking today.
RIP, RLF

Rob had a unique ability to see your side of the story, often
before you could. His ability to empathise made him the gentleman he
was. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I will not forget the discussions that we had Mr. Findlay........

Rob was a great help to me in the earlier days of my business. We had the contract to build Tannoy's and because of this, we spent many hours on the phone. I fondly remember the many conversations we had which were a mix of business and personal. He was an excellent source of valuable advice and a truly generous man with both his time and compassion. I have always valued Rob's friendship and consider him to to be one of natures true gentlemen.

I was incredibly saddened by the news of Rob's passing.
Rob and I first came to know each other about 6 years ago when he was looking for new staff. Needless to say, we got on like a house on fire and got to know each other personally, as well as professionally.
Rob is one of the few characters I've met in business who I came to view as a mentor and friend. His professionalism, easy going nature and sense of humour are qualities I really respected and in the short time I knew him, I learned a great deal about how these qualities contribute to you being a successful human being in both commerce and society.
Rob, I know you'll have a warm seat in the court of the big man upstairs.
You are a champion.
Kane Addison
