Beyerdynamic
 

Eugen Beyer started the company back in 1924 but the big kick off came when they developed the first dynamic headphone (DT48) in 1937. It became the catalyst that propelled the company into the world of international audio. Today beyerdynamic GmbH & Co live in Heilbronn (Germany). They make a big range of headphones, microphones and conference systems. The company history runs as follows:

  • 1924 The Company was founded in Berlin. They developed and manufactured loudspeakers for the cinema.
  • 1937 World's first dynamic headphones, the DT48 came about (They are still in production today).
  • 1939 First dynamic microphone for studio use: M19. It made history as the standard microphone of the "Reichsrundfunkgesellschaft" (Germany's national broadcasting station) for outdoor applications.
  • 1953 A revolutionary development for record shops: the DT49 "stick" headphone gave rise to the famous disc bars.
  • 1962 The "transistophone", the first wireless microphone went into production.
  • 1963 The then newly developed M88 directional microphone was selected as the microphone for Queen Elizabeth's first official visit to Australia.
  • 1966 First Beatles tour of Germany and instant success for the E1000 microphone exclusively used on this tour.
  • 1969 With the introduction of the M500 ribbon microphone the company proved that ribbon microphones are rugged enough for stage applications.
  • 1973 Development and production of the DT204 quadrophonic headphones.
  • 1976 Introduction of the ET1000, the first electrostatic headphones developed and manufactured in Germany.
  • 1980 A sensational new development, the DT880 dynamic headphones breaks with traditions. For the first time it is possible to produce dynamic headphones with electrostatic performance.
  • 1985 The new DT770 and DT990 headphones which feature a so-called "diffuse-field equalized" frequency response are suited not only for audiophiles but serve also as a control instrument. With the MC740 studio condenser microphone featuring switch selectable directional patterns, beyerdynamic now joined the manufacturers of the very best products in this field.
  • 1987 An 18-channel wireless set was used in the production of the hit musical "Cats" in Amsterdam. The world's first Hi-Fi headphone, the DT48 celebrated 50 years in production.
  • 1988 The exclusive headset used at the Olympic Games in Seoul/Korea was the beyerdynamic DT108/DT109.
  • 1989 The new musician's microphones -the extremely robust and high-volume TG-X series - was introduced into the market.
  • 1990 The introduction of the MC742 stereo studio condenser microphone illustrated the continued high quality and innovative beyerdynamic products.
  • 1995 At the International Music Fair in Frankfurt, the U600 was presented, beyerdynamic's first PLL synthesised UHF wireless system. Designed to meet the demands of professional broadcasters the DT200 series of headsets was introduced. The DT531 Hi-Fi headphone was awarded the Diapason d'Or in France.
  • 1996 The MCD100, the world's first digital studio microphone was presented at the 100th AES convention in Copenhagen. The RSS433 wireless headphone was launched, using RF technology music could be enjoyed on headphones indoors or outside. The world's smallest studio microphone, the MCE7 was launched to complement the range of clip-on microphones.
  • 1997 The "Internationale Funkausstellung" (Radio & Television Exhibition) in Berlin saw the launch of the S200 and S300 VHF wireless systems using PLL synthesised technology. In Germany, the musical "The Beauty and the Beast" was equipped with a 32-channel U600 UHF-system.
  • 1998 beyerdynamic introduced the MCS and MCW digitally controlled conference systems. The MCW was the world's first system with a wireless control unit. The SMS600 Stereo-In-Ear-Monitoring-System was another technical innovation for complete freedom of movement for musicians or broadcast presenters.
  • 1999 The condenser microphone range was extended with the MCE90 series. The development of the MCD100 digital microphone was continued with the introduction of the MCD801/803/805. Germany's new parliament in Berlin, the Bundestag, was equipped with beyerdynamic's digital microphones.
  • 2000 The new Opus range was a cohesive family of products optimised for music performance. Classic technology and new materials combined to create a complementary range of microphones, headphones and accessories for the musician on stage or in the studio. Guided tours or simultaneous translations were made easy with the new TTS30 communication system.
  • 2001 beyerdynamic launched the MCW Digital, a wireless and digital conference system. This system featured numerous intelligent details and was safe against unauthorised listening due to digital encryption.
  • 2002 beyerdynamic presented the new generation of gooseneck microphones. The modern design of the SHM200 and SHM800 series blend into the architectural environment perfectly. The new MC930 was a cardioid true condenser microphone for stage and studio at an excellent price/performance ratio. At the FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan the matches were reported with the new beyerdynamic DT297 headset.
  • 2003 New Opus wireless microphone series with “Automatic Channel Targeting“ function.
  • 2004 By using the steno-s Conference and Recording Software, you could record all meetings and discussions on your PC and file the minutes later on a CD or in a network.
